Breaking through the felder-carb…

Battlestar Galactica was one of my favorite sci-fi shows growing up. Not that I gave a whit in Edgarton about sci-fi, but Dirk Benedict is hot stuff, I don’t care what age you are! They used terms on the movie that I’d never heard before and I added them to my vocabulary. Starbuck – I still fancy myself as ‘living on the edge’ when I stop in for a vente brew. (I’ll be right back, my coffee mug needs a refill.) Felder-carb – invading space clutter – anything I don’t want in my space is felder-carb. Applying that principle to … continue reading…

Open the Email!

Y’know when your readers ignore your emails. You get a message back saying “sent to 3452 people. 312 opened” about three hours after it’s sent. That means that 3340 didn’t get a thing out of all the work you just did, because they didn’t open the email. They didn’t learn that you have the greatest widget known to mankind, and you can save them money on their insurance, on their customer service section, or that you’re giving away an amazing product, because they didn’t open the flipping email! Do they care? Probably not. They’re so wrapped up in what they … continue reading…

Urgent Message for you

Sometimes the responses to my blog posts and ezine messages are more impetuous than the message themselves. Such was the case yesterday when I received a message from Mick Austin. Here is what I mean. Most of us that deal with people like everything to be happy, good, and fun. Being “people people” we are quick to share good news but we tend to … continue reading…

Social Media Connections

“I used to pay attention to what my friends on facebook were doing, so I could figure out what made them popular,” my client was upset that she felt she needed someone to help her with social media marketing. She’d always been a popular person, so what was it about social media that didn’t work for her? It isn’t about you. People really don’t care what you had for dinner. They’re looking for a great meal to feed their family. They are hungry and looking for a recipe. They don’t want what YOU have. They want something for themselves. It … continue reading…

Scare up an attitude…

Develop a winning attitude and I’ll see you at the top!  ~Zig Ziglar John Maxwell says, “Never underestimate the power of your attitude.  It is the advance man of our true selves.  Its roots are inward, but its fruit is outward.  It is our best friend, or our worst enemy.  It is more honest and more consistent than our words.  It has an outward look based on past experiences.  It is the thing which draws people to us or repels them.  It is never content until it is expressed.  It is the librarian of our past; it’s the speaker of … continue reading…

5 Ways to Release the Chains of Bondage

Occasionally, I’m so inspired by a message I receive from another writer that I just have to put it on paper… The inspiration. Such is this moment. Spring in Colorado comes with a rush of chirping, high winds, snow storms that rush through crippling the state for a few hours and the melt down that follows becomes water for crops that will grow, as soon as they’re wet and ready. But, it all comes rushing through at once. When it arrives, along with the rest of the people in the state, I’m so busy focusing on what has to be … continue reading…

Our records indicate…

If you’re doing business with people, chances are you have a few clients that pay you LATE. It may not have any meaning other than their clients are late paying them, therefore they’re late getting payments out too. A few years ago, a customer said, “I’ve never bounced a check, never had a late pay, and I’m always current on my credit accounts. I have no debt.” He wasn’t bragging, he was simply letting the world (and me) know that he was a good risk. Six months later, he called to let me know that he’d been laid off from … continue reading…

How to Market Your Business Successfully

Hugh Liddle is one of my favorite marketing coaches. Why? You would ask that… So, now I have to explain. He drives me crazy. That’s it. He drives me crazy. He’s well branded. He’s well spoken. He’s well targeted. He’s well… Okay, I’ll admit it, he’s *sometimes* right. A recent blog post of his has the title “Hey, You Have To Buy Because I Need This Sale!” and he dives right into the philosophical mumbo about selling because you NEED the money. I mean, who doesn’t SELL because they need the money? Really? If you didn’t need the money, would … continue reading…
