The Perfect Egg - Presented By Oris

The Perfect EggArriving at the Reed Mansion east of Lamar, Colorado is quite a production. Never does the production truly end, even once you sit yourself at the table with a paper napkin neatly folded to the corner, a chipped glass of lemon water, and a freshly sharpened pencil at the ready - it’s still a production.

Turning east at the Big Timbers Museum, lights flash behind me as another vehicle follows. A small faded red Toyota with a dark haired woman brings up the tail of the trip.

After we pass the new construction, a little beyond the llama beds, around the curve in 196 (the only one for miles) and just past the houses on the hill. On the right side there’s a nice farm sitting against the backdrop of the Arkansas River Valley, then the next drive on the right is the Reed Mansion. Turn between the reflectors and park facing the river south of the house. Walk across the dirt-gravel drive and stop to scrape your muddy boots on the track in front of the door. Inside, you’ll find pristine floors and high ceilings with homespun collectibles and treasures.

…except for the white plastic table stretched across the center of the kitchen where writers gather.

As we all seated ourselves in the assigned chairs, Oris the Great collected his egg from the stash in the refrigerator, just freshly boiled, the egg peeled like a pro, the egg was presented slice through the middle and described.

“The egg white was tender, not tough. The yoke was delicately flavored, a warm yellow color with none of that off putting green crust. You didn’t need butter or other flavorings, just a simple presentation on a plate with a fork to savor the decadent essence of egg,” Patsy smiled proudly, as her King of Great Eggness presented The Perfect Egg to writers gathered eagerly around the table.

O’ Oris Great One of Egg Perfectionado touched the tip of the knife to the halved egg and lifted the yoke from its bed of white to declare flawlessness and  supremacy of the egg, created by the Barn Builder’s Hens at Hasty Acres. The perfectly formed yoke appeared with strong color consistent through the yoke and around the edge. No trace of stale green appeared in the egg.

By the power of ACE Writers, a group known for their ability to recognize good and bountiful delectibly delicious eggs, the egg was thus dubbed: The Perfect Egg

You’re probably wondering what this has to do with anything, and to be honest, I’m not sure it has anything at all to do with anything that life has going on at all. But, it’s a great post of a rainy, cloudy Saturday afternoon. And I can assure you, with Oris George at the helm of this ship, there will be more to come…

What are llama beds? You plant llama seeds and grow llamas? That would be more than the perfect egg. Unfortunately I don’t take the time to examine hard boiled eggs, they seem to just land automatically in my mouth.

Good post

Well Ron, we’re a strange bunch we Acewriters; we’re working on money beds next…soon as we find out how the llamas fare. Maybe some of the Hasty Acres fertilizer might kick off the former.

When you pass by a herd of llama standing knee deep in mushy river-bottom flood plain and know the only thing grosser than the way they smell in hot muck is camel dung in the desert, it just takes you places.

As for the eggs, Ron, surely you JEST. I’ve read your descriptions of a coffee pot! Beware, be very aware, I know where you blog!

Hey guys I’m here in Westchester and I get great eggs at Whole Foods or even at Stop and Shop there are organic free range eggs. An egg like that would be with its brothers and sisters mashed into egg salad at my house.:) We like it warm too!

You’re cruel! Transitioning from a decadent chocolate cake to eggs (no matter how perfect). In order to rectify this, please e-mail me the cake recipe.

Jacqueline & Barbara,
The recipe you asked for doesn’t exist here on this planet. LOL

Westchester eggs might be good, but I doubt they can comapre to the eggs produced on the Hasty Chicken Tracks Farm. Said farm is owned and operated buy Mrs.BB. This lady speaks a special language to her chickens.

Oh Oris,

And I saved you from being forced to blow that prego-harmone diet and eat a piece so you could abuse me… I’ll be bringing cake - trust me, you’ll be falling off the carb-wagon.

Jacqueline & Barbara, I’ll post the recipe… Just so Oris can lose his girlish figure!

Ladies…and gent,

May I add to this delicious display of delectable fare by saying, I understand about mashing those lovely eggs. I took a bowlful of perfect Hasty Acres eggs and made egg salad; it was dark yellow and yummier…than choco cake (a SMALL piece, anyway!)

There’s a picture of these perfect eggs at trailsofnature.blogspot.com….for your viewing/drooling pleasure. LOL
