Directions to Anywhere – You can’t Get there from Here

Yesterday was quite a lesson on navigation from point A to point B, and the speaker lost me before we got to the alphabet. Sometimes we learn the most when the teacher is off the topic, and yesterday was quite an education.

About once a month, I attend a meeting that has been referred to as Revolutionary, and I suppose to some it’s a cause for concern, we do occasionally discuss methods of overthrowing the government and repealing various political parties, but more often we discuss legal techniques and strategies for living in these uncertain times and the various options available to the common every day man. Then, days like yesterday, some of us realize that there aren’t many common every day men left… Or maybe, they’ve just ALL left.

The lady on the left, I would describe as eccentric. Her coat of three inch curls hung on the back of her chair, and her hip length hair was mounted on top of her head like helicopter blades. She called herself a vegan with alternatives, and smiled through bright red lip gloss. I like her, she has what I would call “world class attitude” and bright caring eyes. She’s friendly and warm, with a happy continence that shines through the colorful presentation of her style.

The lady on the right is slightly eccentric too, but a bit more professional in her appearance. The colorful geometric patterned coat she wore offset the black pencil skirt and sweater, accentuating her slim figure. Long hair fell in curls from a clip at the crown, and her smile indicated years of experience in the art of living well. I like her too.

When talk of the Illuminati came up in the course of the lecture, some listened intently, others rolled their eyes and sank back into their seats.  Still others raised an eyebrow and took notes on the variations of the discussion. Alien beings reported to be in a holding pattern just outside earth’s atmosphere and conspiracy theories bring on an avalanche of discussion, little of it feasible to this logic and reason author who just doesn’t get much from the fantasy world. But, some discussion has merit, so I listen intently, continuing to take notes.

The speaker offers up proof of his authority by way of a federal document created in Comic Sans MS font. Ahem. Two of us glance through the article and wonder what he was smoking when he created that document, or better yet, what he thinks we’re smoking to expect us to believe it. But he passes on more information.

A title show and a discussion of foreclosures ends with several documents being passed, again we find details missing and concepts outside the normal, but he’s got a few good points. The reality is, there are many options, only a few work well.  I’ll be doing more research on the suggestions he made, particularly the ones that seem viable. The rest, short of tossing in the circular file, I’ll review, research enough to verify whether or not they’re bogus and act accordingly.

So, what’s the point of the directions?

Well, that was the whole scope of the show yesterday. We had professionals giving up information they’ve used through the years and local folks with experience listening in on the process of solving various issues. The two became a unit at some point during the day and we had a lot of fun just listening and talking. But the directions didn’t exactly take us where we expected to go… We had other options.

What did happen… We got a ton of information, literally pages and pages of notes. And, on top of it all David and I realized the importance of citing information with legitimate citations.
