Bay Bridge Cable Snaps – Killer Commutes
The news across the nation this morning is a cable on the Bay Bridge in San Francisco and the discussion of that killer commute facing those bridge travelers through the construction season. Makes a girl glad to work from home!
The problem with commuting 45 feet to your office (that’s round trip, for those who know my home is small) is that you often miss the wonderful views of sunrise, the delightful road rage, and the early morning coffee stop. Those quick stops by the Elm Street Perk used to revive my day, but these days I’m stuck with a stop by the kitchen coffee pot and have to make my own version of a Breve. Maybe not always the same, but always a delightful mug of brew!
Then there’s the problem of the company…
Of course, the commute here includes a listen up to “Anything Goes” and the local talk show hosts, Erik Stone and Ty Harmon who entertain with rocky jokes about bubba and some rowdy redneck from Walsh, Colorado, or a chat with Don Turner from Crop Risk Advisors as he brings up reminders of Constitution Studies and the state of our country. That is, right after the local sports show, when Erik gives a list of much needed Sports Trivia.
But, what about those commuters driving across the bridge, or NOT driving across the bridge for a few weeks, while contractors repair the damage from the cable snap?
How will this effect the current economic crunch for these folks? Will some of them get to change their work hours to adjust the time of commute and ease up the high volume traffic?
Will they miss the Burrito Barren? How will they survive?
I know, these questions are probably NOT the same questions they’re facing about now on the west coast, but here in Colorado, these questions are plaguing the best of us. But, for today… We’ll just have to stop worrying about these issues and consider instead Moonlight Madness taking place this week in Lamar, Colorado. There’s always some fun story happening along the local shoppers heaven with free gifts and happy folks greeting each other and new folks in town.
But, about that Bay Bridge thing… send up a prayer for all those commuters who have to change their daily routine. Must be tough…
