Copywriter, please?

Can we say ooooops? The news hasn’t stopped talking about McDaniels punctuation issues since Thanksgiving, and it’s now late Sunday.

I’m not particularly a Broncos fan – after all, it doesn’t take a lot of smarts to chase a ball across the field when it’s got dual points and a few offset stitches.  I just can’t quite get into the game when there’s so much else going on. My granddaughter wants to play, she’s been begging me to read the Polar Bear Book to her, I have to help clean the kitchen and make another pumpkin pie… There’s so much to do.

My daughter, on the other hand, is a crazy orange and blue wearing Broncos fan with her fist in the air, driving her team to success and both feet firmly planted under her overgrown pregnant belly, standing her ground no matter what team her little brother is supporting on any given day of the Bronco playing year. Mile High, Denver Broncos coach Josh McDaniels impressed the heck out of her when he blew out the Mother-F-Bomb during the motivation talk with the team on Thanksgiving Day. The scream was blood curdling! I knew there had to be something wrong. Then, when I got to the next room where they were all watching the game, my daughter burst into tears of laughter.

“I can’t believe he said Mother-F-ing on National Television.”

So, is this the worst that can happen on a football game? I’m in shock that it hasn’t happened before. Seriously, these guys don’t go to church often, they’re out playing football most any Sunday. Does Josh even know he isn’t supposed to say those words on National Television?

So, what could a copywriter have to do with any of this?

Well, if Josh McDaniels hired a copywriter to keep track of his words and information going out over national television, of course, he’d have not said those words. His copywriter would have provided him with a better selection of words to grab attention and not shock America.

Then again, if getting attention was his purpose, he accomplished his goal.

Josh McDaniels will go down in history as the first NFL Coach ever to use the F-Bomb on National Television.

Josh, we do teach grammar and punctuation classes over at ACE Writers.
