Bold and Beautiful

Self improvement options are always out there, waiting for you, sucking you in and terminating you. Beating you down, when you don’t feel like you measure up. I kept running into the same one, for the longest time, I couldn’t get past it. I’ve always been really big on self improvement, never quite seeing myself as ‘good enough’ until I realized that I’m the ‘me’ God created and God doesn’t make mistakes.

It took a good friend of mine slapping me upside the head (virtually) to capture the reality of my error in thinking. I needed to hear someone else say it, I guess. I’d been saying it myself for a long time, but when she said it, I finally HEARD it.

As a child I was always ‘bigger than the other kids’ and everyone reminded me of that. I was the oldest of a group of cousins. I was taller than most of my classmates until after we started high school. Even then, I was in the tallest segment of the class. I outweighed many of them too. Diets didn’t seem to work well and exercise wasn’t my friend, I was a klutz. I grew up feeling less than perfect. That carried over into my adult life.

After two failed marriages, because I married abusive husbands, I even took responsibility for those failures… for the longest time. It wasn’t until I started realizing how much I really had going for me that I began to drop the ‘failures’ off the side and started considering how RIGHT I was as a person.
