Just another day in paradise…

Waking up to a view of the mountains is nothing new. I live in Denver, of course. But, waking up to a mountain view heavy laden with snow in early September… That’s another story. One direction, the mountains are white topped, spires of rock that lead skyward, and another direction, they are hilly mounts of pine that captivate the mind with hints of golden color.

Revelry at dawn entices one to consider the purpose of such a place, such a call, and reminds me that I’m surrounded on THIS day of intense memories and sadness that there is need for such a place, and so many men.

Last night as the Star Spangled Banner was played I heard doors opening as soldiers stepped out and faced the flag, standing at attention some in uniform, some in civilian dress in honor of the flag and the country they work hard to protect. I feel honored to be a visitor on an American Military base. I feel honored to have so many men standing in the gap between this nation and those who would take our freedoms and liberty.

Sunset drenched clear blue skies in liquid silver and pale yellow as a summer day faded into the night. Mountains, blue in the distance came to life with color as the setting sun revealed autumn colored trees against the green pines. We traveled through thick pines from one part of the base to another yesterday and today, visiting friends Tatia left behind 9 months ago when she came home for the summer, setting up housing and buying groceries and supplies for our visit here at a hotel on the base.  The suite is amazing. A furnished living area, kitchen, bedroom and bath, with sleeping facilities for up to four adults and one child. The best part is literally the amazing mountain views from every window.

I’ve been taking pictures but my phone is out of range and I can’t upload them until I’m in ‘phone service range’ according to the message on my cell phone.

Other than a great drive around base, we haven’t done much noteworthy yet… I’ve just been informed that we’re going to THE ACES tonight… I believe that would be The Oasis. I can’t wait!
