More in love with you… Alaska.
I must say, my heart is open wide in love with this amazing state. I’ve only seen a few limited miles of this place and yet, I’m in love. Truly, fallin’ for this place where the sun never sets… or the sun never shines.
And… It’s rained nearly every day since I’ve been here.
The rain is the slow drizzling kind of rain that allows you to meander from house to car without getting drenched (most of the time). And the clouds are various shades of gray. Wind blows across the bay, up into the mountains and lights the skies on fire. Colors fill up the space, flowers rich with blossoms and trees scorched by autumn fill the mountains that rise above us on three sides.
Highways through Alaska are lined with pine trees, colorful aspen and (so I’ve been told) wildlife. Every river I’ve seen rushes to the bay with the energy of a babbling brook overflowing it’s banks and splashing through the rocks. Here on the base rolling hills are covered with green grass and trees are surrounded by shrubs that sprout color. Gray crushed rock fill the parking lots offering the appearance of traction when they’ll be covered with ice.
Daylight begins with a bit of sunlight, colors fingering their way across a cloudy sky, then gray clouds move in, heavy with rain. By evening the gray skies are fading into heavenly blues. I’m certain at some point, I’ll tire of the amazing grays, and tones of autumn, but for now…
Alaska, I’m falling for you…
Wow! Yes, you are indeed falling in love! Alaska is pretty stinkin incredible, isn’t it? We spent a small amount of time in Junea, Ketchikan, Skagway, and the inside passage. To. Die. For. Enjoy your time, Jan!
Beautiful description! Now that I see it, I want to smell it too…
