That is one big freaking storm hitting the coast. I step away from the keyboard a moment to let that thought sink in, as I watch the storm sweep across the continent extending fingers of wind and white clouds, making a way for more rain, snow and wind than most Americans have experienced in their lifetime. Not only has the ocean been blown inland with the gale forces of the winds, but the reaction to the storm has literally rocked the nation.

Being what it is… the superstorm here is but a symbolic revelation of what I want to say. When I watch videos of the hurricane I’m reminded of life. The winds, the storm swirl around us, gathering speed as chaos fills our lives but in the eye of the storm there can be stillness. The realization that in the eye, we are held safe from the beating of the winds. We are held safe in the quiet center of God’s hand as the storms swirl.
Isn’t that a blessed thought? That while in the midst of an evil world, we can be still and simply know that He is Lord…
I’m a social media marketer, so I often spend hours of time on Facebook, Twitter, Linked in and other social media, performing my job, marketing my clients and sending messages out over the internet to those who read various sites. The result may be chaos for a while, but eventually, the swirling storms of media come together and the plan that I’ve vetted through from the eye of the storm appears in the form of profit on the other end, in the hands of my clients. And ultimately in mine.
Yesterday, as I pressed onward with the marketing efforts, I realized that much of my content was being overlooked by the chaos that was erupting over the storm. Then a sense of peace swept over my efforts and I was able to disappear off the social media networks and create important content for blogs and websites that needed updated. I can’t change the storm, short of praying for God’s hand to still the chaos, but I can focus on what I’m supposed to be doing here. I can get the job done, so when those people (some of them clients) are available again to do business, there will be money in the bank waiting.
I can live amid the chaos in the eye of the storm where peace fills my life. Even as the storms swirl around me, I can feel at peace.
