Burning Iron Skillets

I turned on the wrong burner a few nights ago, when making a pot of tea and BADLY burned what was left in my cast iron skillet. I was dreading cleaning it up again, but this morning, I filled it with water and baking soda, boiled it for about twenty minutes and scraped the bottom of the pan with a stainless steel spatula. Rinsed it out and used a little soap and a Scrub Bud to move the soap around, rinsed it again and heated it to dry, then added some bacon grease to season it… Looks good as new! #tipsforlivingwell

Another good tip for making iron skillet’s shine is kosher salt and oil. Heat until smoking hot, dump it out and wipe it down with a paper towel and it’ll look like Teflon(tm). I personally prefer bacon grease, but either works, as well as you heat it up and rub it down good with oil than reheat it, wipe it and store it DRY.
