Protect your heart.
That’s what she said.
When life gets rugged, and it does at times, we fight to hold onto faith, hope, and love. We fight for it, because it’s worth fighting for! But we often forget to protect the part of us that is most at risk in those moments.
As a person who gives everything, you may give too much. I have for many years stated that I can’t out give God, and this is a total truth. Nothing I can give is more than God gives, or has already given me.
Including ways to protect my heart.
God provided ways for me to protect my heart, through faith, hope, and trust in Him.
I have a friend, mentor, family member who often responds to my need for perspective in those moments when I’ve lost my way. And when she responded this week, to my hurting heart, she said, “Protect your heart.”
“Watch over your heart with all diligence, For from it flow the springs of life.”
This verse often comes to mind, reminding me that my heart is filled by God.
“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
I’m often lost, as many are, when I feel like something isn’t right, when I’m outside God’s will, or worse, have ignored his purpose for my life in a situation. Distractions of the world can be amusing, but they don’t fill the needs of my heart.
“And those he predestined, he also called; and those he called, he also justified; and those he justified, he also glorified.”
That’s the verse that brought the revelation.
Although, I do not believe we are in any way predestined, I do believe that some of us are raised up with a purpose, a calling, that God can see, and ‘if we are willing’ because he gives us freedom to choose, then he takes us to that place, gives us the power, the knowledge, and the skills – through whatever means is necessary, even life events and experiences. I believe He uses the experiences we’ve had in life, good or bad, to fulfill his purposes. And ultimately, I believe He Glorifies our experiences in Him.
The only way I know how to explain that is, that He makes our wrong decisions into lessons that glorify Him.
So, even in my brokenness…
In the worst moments of life, when I feel like I can’t overcome the discouragement and pain that life experiences bring my way – if I can find a way to show gratitude, to be grateful in that moment, for the lesson, for the blessings I have, and even at times… for the blessing that comes from the pain. I glorify God.
1 Thessalonians 5:
15 See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.
16 Rejoice evermore.
17 Pray without ceasing.
18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
19 Quench not the Spirit.
20 Despise not prophesyings.
21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
Thus, I am saying rejoice evermore, in all things give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning me. (Emphasis mine.) And HE will supply all my needs, as I request and bring them to his attention.
I have people in my life who deny that God is the answer to ALL things, just as many of you do. They can deny all they want, but HE is my everything. He is my all in all. He is it.
That has been proven over and over again. Hold fast to that which is good. Learn the lessons He intends for you, and the lessons you choose for yourself, and find ways to meet his all encompassing purpose, because He will provide a way for you, just as I know he does for me. And He protects my heart… If I only believe and hold tight to His purpose for my life.
